London Pubs

The Mayflower
Me 'old china' Steve lives near a dandy pub called the Mayflower in Rotherhithe, East London. It is fine establishment to drink a Gin & Tonic while looking over the river Thames. The last time I was there I was impressed by the extensive seafood menu. I chose the dressed crab. Steve and Paola had the Paella. The place has been winning awards for it's cuisine. People say the food in London is crap; well, not if you know where to go.

Gordon's Wine Bar

And speaking of bars. I just love Gordon's Wine bar at Embankment. The only thing is I am not the only one who thinks that. You have to get there early on a weekday to get a seat. When the weather is good, people are spilling out on the grounds next to the pub. They don't do beer at this place. It is apparently one of the oldest drinking establishments in London. And it looks it. The ceiling in the patron's section has low a vaulted ceiling. You need to stoop as you make your way to your chair. I am craving some Rioja just thinking about it.

The Ship, Wardour Street

Jonny bartender at the Ship

I have been going to this pub for years now; it is in Soho.  The main attraction for me is the music.  They play alternative and indie music there.  The last time I was there, they were playing "This is Not a Love Song" by P.I.L.  A song that I had not heard in ages.
